Course summary
This could be for you if you are certain you want to work in a Health Care setting in the future. This is a full time course which will be taken alone in Sixth Form. Equivalent to 3 A levels, the 2-year course has been developed in collaboration with employers to ensure the content prepares learners for the world of work and meets industry needs. It is a mixture of classroom learning and industry placement. Due to the demands and size of this course students must have achieved a GCSE Grade 4 minimum in English Language,and a Grade 5 in Maths and Science. Core Content: Areas covered include working within the health and science sector, the healthcare sector, health, safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector, health and safety regulations applicable in the healthcare sector, managing information and data within the health and science sector, managing personal information, good scientific and clinical practice, providing person-centred care, health and wellbeing, infection prevention and control in health specific settings, and safeguarding. There is also a significant science content including chemistry, physics and biology relating to health and care provision. Skills Developed: Through a combination of placements at the QE Hospital; and in a care home, (minimum 45 days) and also by working in our practical training room, you will develop core skills in how to assist with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing. You will assist registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions and you will undertake a range of physiological measurements. For your occupational specialism, you will assist the adult nursing team with clinical tasks, support individuals to meet activities of daily living and assist with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions.
