The course comprises four units — ➢ Human Interactions explores human rights and global migrations, social inequality and economic change. ➢ Physical Systems investigates coastal environments and Earth’s life support systems, such as the carbon and hydrological cycle. ➢ Geographical Debates covers tectonic hazards and the management of disease around the world. ➢ Investigative Geography involves conducting primary research, leading to the creation of a report on a geographical issue of your choice. To prepare you for the investigative unit, you will have a number of opportunities to carry out fieldwork in the local area. There is also the option for a field trip to Iceland every other year.
Students with a GCSE average point score* of between 5.0 and 7.0 are strongly encouraged to take three A Level courses Grade 6 in GCSE Geography. If you have not previously studied Geography, a grade 6 in History or RE and a grade 4 in English.
20% is based on an independent investigation 80% is based on two ‘extended writing’ exams.
