You will learn to develop ambitious reading and analytical skills; considering social, historical, and political contexts, and reflecting on how language use is shaped by these contexts. You will learn features of the stylistic framework and apply this to a wide range of texts. You will consider how society, gender, occupation, and social class impact language use. You will also consider child language acquisition and language change. You will explore key critical theories within the field of linguistic study, which will develop your own understanding and will help cultivate your academic style. You will cultivate a confident and analytical voice that you can apply to the NEA tasks within the course, as well as your exam submissions.
