- You will study a range of key concepts within the study of linguistics. - Your skills of analysis and interpretation will be developed to ensure you become critical thinkers. - You will be supported by highly skilled teachers with a wealth of academic knowledge and experience. Do you enjoy reading and analysing texts to gain a deeper understanding of how language is utilised for different purposes? Do you like exploring social and political influences on language? Are you fascinated by the ways children learn to speak and write, as well as the barriers that hinder this process? Do you enjoy considering how language changes over time or as a result of differences in age, gender, and class? Do you love deliberating with others to develop more complex interpretations of language use? If so, English Language is the course for you. You will learn to develop ambitious reading and analytical skills; considering social, historical, and political contexts, and reflecting on how language use is shaped by these contexts. You will learn features of the stylistic framework and apply this to a wide range of texts. You will consider how society, gender, occupation, and social class impact language use. You will also consider child language acquisition and language change. You will explore key critical theories within the field of linguistic study, which will develop your own understanding and will help cultivate your academic style. You will cultivate a confident and analytical voice that you can apply to the NEA tasks within the course, as well as your exam submissions.
