Course summary

Deepen your critical understanding of business organizations and the markets they serve. Business behavior is studied from the perspectives of a range of stakeholders, including customers, employees, shareholders, the Government and the local community. Students will study business start-ups, financial planning, people and operations management, marketing, business strategy and the business environment. You will develop analysis and critical evaluation skills to enable you to explore how business theory can be applied to a number of different organizations. You will develop your research skills, using books, journals, newspapers and the internet, as well as developing critical evaluation skills and problem-solving. The course will enable you will develop your numeracy skills by carrying out detailed financial analysis of businesses, You will develop your skills in debating and presenting, as well as improving your own learning and performance with concise and efficient note-taking styles. Ultimately, you will be able to develop skills which will enable you to improve your own learning, performance, and problem-solving. Covering a wide range of topics, and developing a wide range of skills, the course is designed to make you more attractive to employers. The vocational nature of the course means that you will be required to apply what you learn in class to different business situations. Consequently, you will be better prepared to deal with real-life workplace situations, as and when they arise.
