Biology A-Level students will study practical skills as well as learning about the foundations of biology which will include cell structure and biochemistry. You will cover topics including biodiversity, disease, exchange and transport, genetics, the nervous system and communication systems in plants and animals. To access the top grades, we strongly advise taking Chemistry A-Level alongside Biology A-Level, as the Biology ALevel contains a large proportion of A-Level Chemistry content. At the very least, we would recommend taking another Science A-Level alongside Biology. From experience, we have found that students who obtain an A.P.S. score of less than 6.0+ at GCSE, go on to struggle with the demand and content of A-Level Biology.
- For Single Scientists: grade 6 in Biology GCSE, Chemistry GCSE and Maths GCSE, and grade 5 in one English GCSE - For Combined Scientists: grade 6-6 in Combined Science GCSEs (including grade 6s in all Biology and Chemistry modules), grade 6 in Maths GCSE and grade 5 in one English GCSE - Students need a to achieve a minimum of a grade 4 in Maths and one of the English GCSEs, and ideally a GCSE Average Point Score (A.P.S.) of at least 4.0, in order to be able to access any of our Level 3 Vocational and A-Level courses.
