Welcome to The Windsor Boys' School

Welcome from the Head of Sixth FormThe Windsor Boys’ School has a Sixth Form of which we are justly proud. With approximately 220 students choosing to study with us post-16, we retain and attract a very large number of boys who wish to share in the success we achieve and who are willing to take up the challenge we offer. According to our Value-Added indicators, we regularly average a top 25% place nationally for the progress made by our students. As stated by the most recent OFSTED report (May 2023), “the academic sixth form offers an ambitious, relevant and inclusive curriculum.” Our academic offer ranges from the traditional A-Level pathway to a more vocational pathway via BTEC qualifications. Students are offered the opportunity to focus their attention on a specific pathway or follow a ‘mixed’ programme of A-Level and vocational qualifications. Working in alignment with Windsor Girls’ School means that we can offer our young people one of the widest choices of courses of all local schools. It is vitally important that students not only succeed but are also well informed for their future. OFSTED highlighted that “outcomes in the Sixth Form are very strong and three quarters of the students proceed to universities of their choice.” To add to this, they also acknowledged that “pupils and students are very well prepared for their future”, be that university, an apprenticeship or straight into employment. Sixth Formers expect to be both challenged and supported in equal measure. Most importantly we want Sixth Formers to take pride in being role models. This is never more evident than in their exploits outside of the classroom, where there are unparalleled opportunities to assume responsibility, to develop sporting and entrepreneurial skills, to achieve greater self-confidence and to gain new interests. The Sixth Form also fosters young leaders: our Senior Prefect Team is responsible for organising events and upholding student voice. We recognise that education is for the whole person and for life, thus – apart from showing any potential admissions tutor or employer that there is much more to being a student than that which appears on certificates – life-long interests, hobbies, habits and friendships flourish during a student’s time in the Sixth Form. The next two years are among the most important you will ever face. If you choose to enter our Sixth Form, you will be asked to commit to being the best young person you can be. Being a Sixth Former at The Windsor Boys’ School is a privileged position and comes with attendant responsibilities. If you embrace these, you will have an excellent chance to achieve, whatever it is that you are aiming for.Mr O. Woods, Head of Sixth Form

Drama
Drama at TWBS is a growing department with GCSE numbers rising every year. Drama is taught in our purpose-built studio where students have access to a lighting rig and desk, brand new surround sound system, a moveable and buildable stage, props, and costumes galore as well as other professional theatre features.
Art
Twice a year students have the opportunity to attend printing workshops at The Curwen Press Study Centre in Cambridge where they are taught by printmaking experts. We have strong links with the local art and cultural community. The school exhibits work at The Windsor Contemporary Art Show and Windsor Fringe alongside professional local artists. We are currently developing unique opportunities for students to use Windsor Castle’s wonderful collections to inspire their work. Our students also have the opportunity to attend artist talks and exhibitions at Eton College.
