Course summary

Did you know that French is one of the most widely spoken languages with over 120 million speakers worldwide? With increased globalisation and the opportunities offered by email, social networking and video-conferencing, a modern foreign language such as French is an enormous asset in many spheres of life and work. French A Level involves the development of four aspects of the language (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking). It will enhance your understanding of French-speaking countries and their cultural differences. During the course, you will learn through a variety of exercises including reading and listening comprehension from a range of media sources. You will also present information, opinions and arguments either orally or in writing. Through a range of units, you will consider many aspects of French-speaking society and culture, including the Changing Nature of the Family and A Culture Proud of its Heritage. A study of political life will look at topics such as, The Right to Vote for Teenagers. You will also study a film and a book and have the opportunity to complete an Individual Research Project (IRP) in preparation for your speaking exam. The first term includes a diagnostic and bridging course to ensure you have the necessary basic knowledge and skills to achieve your full potential in French.
