The diversity of the subject enables you to take your Chemistry A - level to many different places. Chemists work as lawyers, astronauts, environmental scientists in jungles and marine chemists on coral reefs. These are just a few ideas of what you could do with your Chemistry A- level. Chemistry is a diverse and fascinating subject, which will develop many of the skills essential for a successful career such as: • How to collect and evaluate data • How to investigate facts and use deduction • How to put over your point of view effectively • How to apply your knowledge and understanding • Independent learning • Communication, organisation and team work • Analytical and logical problem solving Chemistry is the study of how a chemical substance changes into others; the food you eat, your mobile phone, the air you breathe, the cars you drive are all made of chemicals. You want inexpensive products? Chemistry helps to reduce costs. You want a less polluted Earth? Chemistry helps to create greener and more environmentally friendly products and processes. This will all be covered throughout the three areas in Chemistry: physical, inorganic and organic topics. Topics that help deeper existing knowledge include: 1. Structure of the atom 2. Bonding 3. Rate of reaction 4. Organic synthesis 5. Energetics 6. Redox reactions 7. Thermodynamics 8. Kinetics 9.Periodicity 10. Alkanes and alkenes You will study an AQA qualification that is a full two year course taking what you know at GCSE and studying the topic in more depth.
