The subject content for A level Economics has been grouped into three broad areas: • Microeconomics • Macroeconomics • Trade and development Microeconomics is a branch of economics that studies the behaviour of individuals and firms in making decisions regarding the allocation of limited resources. Macroeconomics is the branch of economics that studies the behaviour and performance of an economy as a whole. It focuses on the aggregate changes in the economy such as unemployment, growth rate, gross domestic product and inflation. Trade and development is the branch of economics that studies macroeconomic performance in a global context and examines deeper economic integration between countries. It focuses on why countries trade and the importance of globalisation to trade and development. Why choose this course? Anyone who: • Wishes to study Economics at university • Wishes to pursue a career in Economics or related fields • Wishes to develop transferable skills such as analytical, critical thinking and numerical skills. • Enjoys studying a subject that allows us to understand the world we live in.
