Course summary

The ability to speak another language, even if only to A Level, can open up many doors in your career and academic life. Studying French will enhance your employment prospects in a global economy, facilitate foreign travel, provide an insight into another culture and society and provide a sound basis for further study. First Year Study one Cultural Topic (e.g. one book or one film) from a French-speaking country or community and the following two themes: Aspects of French-speaking society: - The changing nature of the family - ‘Cybersociety’ - Charity work Artistic culture in the French-speaking world: - Culture and national pride - Contemporary French music - Cinema Second Year Study two Cultural Topics (e.g. one book and one film) from a French-speaking country or community. You will also study: Aspects of French-speaking society: - Positive features of a diverse society - Life for marginalised peoples - The treatment of criminals Artistic culture in the French-speaking world: - Teenagers, the right to vote and political commitment - Demonstrations, strikes and who holds power - Politics and immigration
