Course summary

The Religious Studies A-Level is designed to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of religious beliefs and teachings, as well as the disciplines of ethics and philosophy of religion. Paper 1: Covers the history of philosophical ideas, from Ancient Greece to the present day, the existence of God, evil and free will. Paper 2: Covers a range of ethical frameworks, including utilitarianism, Kant, natural law and situation ethics. These are then applied to intriguing, useful and real-life situations drawn from euthanasia and business. This allows students to develop an understanding of human behaviour and ethics. Paper 3: Tracks themes throughout the history of religion, which have influenced morality, culture, art and all types of human knowledge and behaviour. It allows students to engage with a range of theologians, whose insights on the human condition are still highly relevant today.
