Mathematics
Course summary
For many university courses Maths is an essential qualification: these include Mathematics, Statistics, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Finance, Business, Economics, and Information Technology. For many other courses Maths is an extremely useful qualification: these include all sciences, all social sciences, all finance related areas, all technology related areas. Maths is also regarded as good general training, and commands some prestige. A number of other A levels also use mathematics to a greater or lesser extent: these include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Sports Studies, Psychology, Geography and Business Studies. Many would argue that the main reason for studying mathematics though is the sheer beauty of the subject: it is interesting, esoteric, deeply relevant to the real world, and is, essentially, the language of the universe. We in the Mathematics department love mathematics and look forward to sharing our passion for the subject through a rich variety of deep learning activities.
