Biology
Course summary
The course is designed to follow on from GCSE Science and is modern in approach emphasising important biological principles of physiological biochemistry, genetics and the biology of DNA, evolution through natural selection, and ecology. At A-level students are more responsible than ever before for their own study and learning. From the beginning of the course, the students will be encouraged to make their own class notes during lessons. These will be supplemented by printed handouts. Students will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and take part in discussions. Around five hours of private study time each week should be used to do written assignments, complete practical accounts, read around the subject using a variety of sources, and revise and learn topics for the regularly set end-of-topic tests.
