
A level Art and Design is a diverse, challenging, and rewarding course that combines practical skills with an independent development of ideas. The full course is made up of 2 components through which students can experiment with a range of techniques and processes to create an exciting portfolio of their work. Students are encouraged to independently develop their own ideas and processes, based on the visual world around them. They will record ideas and processes from primary and secondary sources in a personal journal or sketchbook. Students will draw on historical and contemporary sources in order to contextualize their own work. Students have the opportunity to explore the following disciplines: - 2-dimensional drawing, painting, and mixed media processes - Sculpture - Photography and photo-shop-based processes - Printmaking - Textiles - Installation
Students who wish to study three A levels must achieve a minimum of: Six GCSE’s at grade 6 or above; and GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English (Language or Literature) at grade 5 or above Students must achieve a 6 grade at GCSE Art. External applicants will be asked to email a portfolio of their work prior to enrolment.
All components are “non-exam assessments” (NEA) and will be assessed on the following criteria: - Develop ideas through investigations informed by contextual sources. - Explore and select resources, media, materials, techniques, and processes. refining idea development. - Record ideas, observations, and insights relevant to intentions. - Present a personal, informed, and meaningful response to ideas. Make connections between visual and written elements.
