Course summary

The course is designed not only to give you an insight into the science, mathematics and ‘art’ of how computers work, but more importantly will encourage a new way of thinking about the solutions to world problems. You will learn about different components and how each of them interacts to make a working system. Through a range of units, you will be taught to think in an abstract and computational way and you will complete a practical project in a computing field. You will also discover how computers hold and manipulate data using algorithms and ‘in-memory’ data structures, how machines ‘learn’ and how they communicate with each other over a network. In addition, you will learn how to write your own programs using the widely-used programming language Python. As well as introducing you to the world of computational thinking, the course will develop your problem-solving skills, which can be applied throughout all of your subjects.
