Course summary

From the moment you are born, and throughout your life, you are surrounded by chemistry. Chemistry is the study of substances, what they are made of, how they interact and what role they play in living things. Chemistry is a highly valued qualification and will suit you if you are practical, like solving problems and are good at maths. We follow the AQA A level Chemistry course. This is split into three areas of chemistry and we will study the following topics as part of the course: Physical Chemistry • Structure and Bonding • Thermodynamics and equilibria • Acids and bases Organic Chemistry • Alkanes and Alkenes • Aromatic Chemistry • Organic synthesis and analysis Inorganic Chemistry • Periodicity • Group 2 and group 7 • Period 3 elements and transition metals There are also 12 assessed practical activity skills that run through the course.
