
Chemistry is split into three distinct topics, which will be taught across both years: - Organic Chemistry - Inorganic Chemistry - Physical Chemistry Year 12: - Foundation Chemistry - Chemistry in Action Year 13: - Kinetics, Equilibria, and Organic Chemistry - Energetics, Redox, and Inorganic Chemistry
Students who wish to study three A levels must achieve a minimum of: Six GCSE’s at grade 6 or above; and GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English (Language or Literature) at grade 5 or above Students must achieve a grade 6 in GCSE chemistry or science trilogy. This course requires an understanding of level 3 mathematics content. Therefore Core Maths is mandatory for those who don’t study A-level Mathematics or achieve a grade 7 or higher in GCSE mathematics.
As with all sciences, chemistry is fundamentally an experimental subject. Practical skills will be developed throughout the course and assessed within your final exams. Both exams will require the use of Level 2 (Higher tier GCSE) mathematical skills.
