Course summary
The course aims to provide students with a broad educational base for further training, further education and employment within the music sector. The qualification will develop students’ abilities through the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the programme. The 2-year course covers a range of topics. Unit 1: Practical Music Theory and Harmony – internally assessed through a presentation and a composition portfolio. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of music theory and harmony and apply their understanding in practical scenarios. Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry – externally assessed through a written assignment set by Pearson. Students will explore what it is that makes someone a professional in the music industry and how to put forward a bid for work. Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance – externally assessed through a practical assignment set by Pearson. Students work as part of a musical ensemble and develop their skills and techniques in rehearsal and performance. Unit 6: Solo Performance – internally assessed. Students explore the preparation and performance of music as a soloist before performing in front of an audience.
