Course summary
In Media, our intent is to offer students the opportunity to evaluate the role of the media in contemporary society and to recognize the value and importance of media institutions. The A Level course requires the study of a wide range of media texts and products to encourage learners to understand how contexts, political bias, and stereotyping impact meaning. Media Studies is a popular A Level course underpinned by the Theoretical Framework: Media Language, Representation, Audience and Industry. Through the study of a wide range of texts including print, audio, and audio-visual texts, students learn about ownership, funding, and how contextual factors impact the way in which audiences consume media products and respond to the construction of representations. Media Studies students will evaluate a wide range of theories in relation to the set products studied, including Feminist Theory.
