The A Level Biology course builds upon concepts studied at GCSE by developing students’ knowledge of biological principles and exploring new developments in areas such as Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, Disease, Conservation and Environmental Protection. The subject is a gateway to many different university courses and careers.
5 GCSE Grade A* to C including English and Mathematics and Biology A*-B Students have achieved Grade 5 or above in FIVE separate subjects ideally including English and Mathematics. In order to study a subject at A Level, you would be required to have at Grade 5 in that particular subject if you have studied it at GCSE
Paper 1 - Biological Processes worth 100 marks; assesses content from modules 1, 2, 3 and 5. 37% of total A level. Written Paper – 2 hour 15 minutes. Paper 2 - Biological Diversity worth 100 marks; assesses content from modules 1, 2, 4 and 6. 37% of total A level Written paper – 2 hour 15 minutes Paper 3 - Unified Biology worth 70 marks; assesses content from all modules (1 to 6). 26% of total A level written paper - 1 hour 30 minutes. Practical Endorsement in Biology (04) (non-exam assessment)
