Course summary

The A Level Physics course enables students to build on their GCSE concepts and develop knowledge of the laws of physics, applying their understanding to solve problem areas ranging from subatomic particles to the workings of the universe. Students will also develop their investigating skills through practical activities and will also need to utilise mathematical skills. The subject is a gateway into a variety of careers and university courses.

Entry requirements

5+ GCSE Grades A* - C including English, Mathematics and Physics Students have achieved Grade 5 or above in FIVE separate subjects ideally including English and Mathematics. In order to study a subject at A Level, you would be required to have at Grade 5 in that particular subject if you have studied it at GCSE

How you'll be assessed

Paper 1 – Modelling Physics worth 100 marks; assesses content from modules 1, 2, 3 and 5. 37% of total A level. Written paper – 2 hours 15 minutes Paper 2 – Exploring Physics worth 100 marks; assesses content from modules 1, 2, 4 and 6. 37% of total A level. Written paper – 2 hours 15 minutes Paper 3 - Unified Physics worth 70 marks; assesses content from all modules (1 to 6). 26% of total A level. Written paper - 1 hour 30 minutes Practical Endorsement in Physics (04) (internal no exam assessment)
