Course summary

The A Level course is designed to run over two years and consists of three units of work: the first is a 'Theatre Workshop' which involves creating a performance that is a 'reinterpretation' of a published text. A piece of written work accompanies this internally assessed unit, called the 'creative process log'. This first unit also requires the use of the methods of one practitioner or theatre company, so the work will involve multiple workshops looking at various practitioners. Unit 2 consists of two performances, one devised and one scripted, which are externally examined. Again, the devised element of this unit requires the influence of a recognized theatre practitioner. The third and final unit is a 2-hour 30-minute written exam, which involves essay-style questions on two set texts: one pre-1956 and one post-1956. The final section of the written exam is based on a pre-released extract of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
