Assessment
Assessment is comprised of three examinations at the end of two years' study. Progression to year two will be dependent on successful completion of year one Progression Exams as well as your Key Assessment profile. Paper 1 The Nature of Law and the English Legal System - Criminal Law. You will study the underlying nature of law and its role in society including the various mechanisms used to create law, the roles of the courts in enforcing/applying law and the work of personnel in administering justice. You will study criminal law from the viewpoint of a range of criminal offences with an emphasis on the application of your knowledge using fictitious scenarios. Paper 2 The Nature of Law and the English Legal System - Tort Law. You will study the underlying nature of law and its role in society including the various mechanisms used to create law, the roles of courts in enforcing/applying law and the work of personnel in administering justice. You will study civil law from the viewpoint of a range of torts (civil wrongs) with an emphasis on the application of your knowledge using fictitious scenarios. Paper 3 Contract Law. You will examine the essential requirement for creating legal relations. You will consider offer and acceptance, considerations and intentions when creating a legal agreement. The course will outline the possible defence and remedies available to all, including the impact these have on defendants and claimants.
