Course summary

What better way to develop analytical skills, writing skills and discussion skills? Students will experience the alternative worlds, delights and pleasures wrapped up in the fantastic literature they will study in this course. Reading novels, drama and poetry is a treat that anyone interested in books cannot fail to enjoy. In the first year of the course, students will learn to be a critic and close reader of mostly 20th-century literature. In the second year, our leap through time increases, to take learners back to the 16th century where they will study the language of love through the ages. Shakespeare, William Blake, Thomas Hardy, Arthur Miller, Jeanette Winterson and Carol Ann Duffy are just some of the authors they will encounter in the A-level English Literature course. Additionally, students get to choose texts for their independent study so that they can follow their interests. Debate and analytical exploration are key skills they will develop as students hone essay writing and discussion skills.
