Course summary

History is clearly an essential subject for those who wish to pursue it at university but it also has a much broader relevance. It is highly appropriate to careers in law, journalism, politics, and management, in fact, any area in which the ability to evaluate information and present reasoned judgments is useful. Many of Britain’s top company bosses have History degrees as well as Prime Ministers. Entry requirements

Students who wish to study three A levels must achieve a minimum of: Six GCSE’s at grade 6 or above; and GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English (Language or Literature) at grade 5 or above Students must achieve a grade of 6 at GCSE History.

How you'll be assessed

Unit 1 – 25% of final qualification – 1 hour 30 min source-based examination externally assessed and marked. Unit 2 – 15% of final qualification – 1-hour essay-based examination externally assessed and marked. Unit 3 – 40% of the final qualification – 2 hours 30 min examination externally assessed and marked. Unit 4 – An independent study of 3000-4000 words. This will be worked on in class and marked internally.
