German
Course summary
Studying a foreign language at A Level will deepen your understanding and knowledge of the language by the teaching of grammar and vocabulary in depth. In addition, it will provide an insight into a foreign culture, the people and their customs by investigating issues of French/German/Spanish speaking countries. You will study social issues and trends of French/German/Spanish speaking societies as well as themes from political, intellectual and/or artistic culture. You will investigate a book and film as well as carry out a research project. Foreign Languages complement other subjects in which students learn about language or literature like English or Latin, or those subjects in which the ability to speak a foreign language could become useful like Business Studies. Alternatively, it could form an interesting contrast to artistic or scientific subjects. An A Level in a foreign language is a versatile qualification, which will support a range of career paths. These include business services, charity work, engineering, media, museums and libraries, public administration, teaching, tourism, translating, transport and logistics and branches of the armed forces.
