Course summary
Art and Design A Level is very similar to the format of GCSE here at Sir Graham Balfour with very similar structure and assessment criteria. Students will use a variety of techniques and media and explore different artists’ work, whilst creatively developing their work in 2D and 3D. Skills in drawing, painting and mixed media are developed to encourage individuality. Self-expression is an important characteristic of Art and our A Level requires students to think creatively and independently. Art encourages individuality and develops students’ self-confidence. A good A Level result can be achieved by every student if effort is consistently applied throughout the course. Through the use of a wide variety of materials and techniques students have the opportunity to use their imagination to produce personal responses to each project.Creative thinking skills developed through Art & Design can be applied to all aspects of life. In an increasingly visual world, Art & Design equips students with visual language and literacy skills. This qualification provides students with an Art and Design portfolio to support an application to Higher Education as well as the practical skills required for employment with further training. Interior Design, Advertising, Computer Design, Animation, Architect, Media & TV, Product Design, Fashion Design, Theatre Design, Jewellery Design, Photography, Teacher, Craft design, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Sign writer/Sign maker, Video Design , Web Design, Technical Illustrator, sculptor and many more.
