Course summary

AQA A level Physics is a highly regarded qualification that will help you to understand the world around you. It is an extremely interesting subject that will engage and challenge you. This A level course covers everything from quantum mechanics to the interplanetary forces. It is an essential course for all medicine and engineering degrees. The Year 12 course consists of four taught units: particles and radiation; waves; mechanics and materials; electricity. In Year 13, students will go on to study: fields and further mechanics; fields and their consequences; nuclear physics; optional module (e.g.: astrophysics, medical physics, turning points). Physics provides an excellent foundation for a wide range of courses in Higher Education such as physics, astrophysics, engineering, forensic science, medicine, computing and scientific journalism, in addition to being a highly respected qualification in its own right. Physics graduates are highly sought after by many sectors of industry and the government has launched initiatives to encourage interest and expertise in this subject. In real terms, this means that the earning power of physics graduates is significantly enhanced. Many students who have completed the A2 Physics course at Ossett Sixth have progressed on to take physics, medical or engineering courses at prestigious universities across the country.
