Course summary

The food industry is one of the largest employers in the country. This course will lead on from GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition and will allow learners to further develop both practical and academic skills through applied learning. The Level 3 Food Science and Nutrition qualification would allow students to gain a wealth of knowledge about the food and nutrition industry. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the relationship between the human body and food as well as practical skills for cooking and preparing food. Students must complete three units over the two years. Two are mandatory and one is optional. Unit 1: Meeting Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups (Mandatory) [Coursework and Exam] Unit 2: Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat (Mandatory) [Exam] Unit 3: Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems (Optional) [Coursework] Unit 4: Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition (Optional) [Coursework] These units will be assessed through a combination of written examinations, projects, and case studies to cater to different learning styles.
