Students will examine the effects democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. They will explore core political ideas: conservatism, liberalism, socialism and the impact of the UK constitution, Parliament, Prime Minister and executive, and the UK Supreme Court. In year 2 students will study American politics and compare structural, cultural and rational similarities and differences between the two systems.
