Government and Politics
Course summary
Politics will appeal to students who have a genuine interest in current affairs, combined with an ability to analyse and evaluate questions logically, using relevant supporting evidence. Students will examine the effects democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. They will explore core political ideas: conservatism, liberalism, socialism and the impact of the UK constitution, Parliament, Prime Minister and executive, and the UK Supreme Court. In year 2 students will study American politics and compare structural, cultural and rational similarities and differences between the two systems.
