General entry requirements are 5 or more GCSEs graded 4/5 or above including English Language, and ideally, Maths. To study this course, you will need at least a grade 5 in GCSE English Language, showcasing your proficiency in understanding and analysing written texts. With this foundation, you will be equipped to delve into the intricacies of language as we explore its multifaceted nature.
Assessment for this course comprises two exams, which account for 80% of the marks. These exams will require you to write insightful essays on language concepts and research, and engage in debates about language. The remaining 20% of the marks are obtained through two pieces of coursework. You will undertake an investigation of 2,000 words, exploring a language-related topic, and develop a creative piece accompanied by a 750-word commentary and annotated style model. The coursework begins approximately halfway through the course, providing you ample time to hone your research and writing abilities.
