Sociology

Course summary

You will be encouraged to think critically about the world we live in. You will explore the idea that people are shaped by society. Specifically you will focus on the family and education system during the first year. Within these topic areas you will look at aspects such as changes in the modern world and the positive and negative effects of both. During the second year the main focus will be criminology, looking at different aspects such as research into why people may become a criminal and the way society deals with them. This is then developed into the final topic of beliefs, looking at the impact of religion in the modern world such as recent conflicts. Throughout the course you will learn about the research done in each of the key areas, discussing what the sociologists have discovered and how they completed their work.
