Design and Technology (Product Design)
Course summary
This course follows on from GCSE Design and Technology and will help you develop a deeper understanding of how products are designed and manufactured in the real world. You will learn about contemporary technologies, materials and processes, as well as established practices. This new qualification places greater emphasis on understanding and applying iterative design processes. You will use your creativity and imagination to design and make prototypes that solve real and relevant problems, considering your own and others’ needs, wants and values. This creative qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers. Especially those in the creative industries. You will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put your learning in to practice by producing prototypes of your choice. You will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.
