Art and Design (Fine Art)

Course summary

The art and design industry is the fastest growing industry in the UK, providing many opportunities for new and innovative thinkers. Every item in your life has passed through the hands of either an artist or designer, from the aesthetics of electrical equipment, wallpaper, cars, not to mention the fantastic artistic creations that brighten the world. Throughout the course you are encouraged to experiment with a wide variety of materials, including; oil paint, watercolours, ink, pencils (just to mention a few) and a range of 3D techniques. The work you produce will be a range of different sizes from small to very large on both paper and canvas. During year 12 and some of year 13 you will work on a major portfolio project that you are in control of, you will choose your starting point and discussions with your teachers will help you to make informed choices about the directions in which you go. You will be encouraged to use photography within your work as this enhances the development process.
