The A level consists of three exam papers plus the independent study Britain 1930-1997 (Unit 1): 90 minutes, 25% of A level, essay + document. Italy and Unification 1789-1896 (Unit 2); 60 minutes, 15% of A Level, mini-essay + essay. Russia and its rulers 1855-1964 (Unit 3): 150 minutes, 40% of A level, interpretation + essay Unit 4: 3000-4000 word essay, 20% of A level
