Further Mathematics will allow you to study more challenging mathematical ideas in preparation for Higher Education. It is particularly relevant if you wish to progress onto degree courses in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computing, Economics, Data Science, Actuarial studies, and Operations Research. It can also be studied as preparation for jobs where high-powered Maths is applied, or simply for the pleasure of the subject. You will extend both your Pure Mathematics and your Applications beyond the scope of A-level Maths, and you should expect to be challenged, particularly in terms of logic and mathematical problem-solving. A level of Further Mathematics is a stand-alone qualification and a full A level. A level of Mathematics must also be taken along with this course.
5 GCSE 9/A* - 4/C Grades including English Language, and a minimum grade B/7 in Maths. This course must be taken alongside A Level Mathematics. You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project prior to enrolment.
This is a two-year linear A Level where you are examined on the whole syllabus at the end of the second year. The assessment will consist of 3 Final Papers (consisting of 2 Further Pure Maths papers and 1 Application of Mathematics Options paper) To prepare you for external exams, you will carry out a program of weekly independent study, exam-style assessments, and four Formal Progress Points during which we will monitor your attendance, how hard you are working, and your academic progress. All Year 1 students will progress through a Year 1 Gateway which is dependent on achievement during your Formal Progress Points. If a high enough level is achieved, you will progress to Year 2.
