Course summary
This qualification has been designed to account for two-thirds of a two-year, full-time study programme for learners who are intending to go onto further study in a related sector. The Level 3 BTEC in Health and Social Care offers a wide range of units such as human lifespan development, meeting individual care and support needs, working in health and social care, enquiries into current research, physiological disorders, promoting safe practices and promoting Public Health. It is a valuable and recognised qualification so students are therefore able to progress into Higher Education in this field. This course is suitable for students considering a career in any of the following: Childcare, Nursing, Paediatrics, Midwifery, Social Work, Teaching/similar careers, Police officer, Probation, Paramedics and Counselling. This list is not exhaustive as this course provides a firm foundation for many other careers as well as a wide range of university courses. Skills that are developed throughout the course include: • Cognitive and problem-solving skills: using critical thinking, approaching non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, using systems and technology • Intrapersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, selfpresentation • Interpersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.
