An applied science course is an opportunity if you have aspirations to study and develop a career in the field of science. You will learn about the principles and practicalities of working in a scientific setting and the practical applications of biology, physics, chemistry and maths. Whether you are on the Analytical and Forensic Science or Biomedical Science route, you will study the same core of scientific modules, and 'wrapped' around them are modules specific to your chosen study programme. On successful completion of the second year you would be able to enter employment in the science service or other scientific related fields as a Science Technician or progress to higher education to study a full time degree in a range of science areas.
- Both pathways require applicants to have five grade 4 GCSEs including grade 4 in Maths and a grade 4 in English or English Language. - Additionally, for the Forensic Science pathway, applicants need to have a grade 5 in two separate sciences/double science; or for the Biomedical pathway, applicants need to have a grade 6 in two separate sciences/double science.
Units 1 and 5 are written examinations set and marked by Pearson. Units 3 and 7 are tasks set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions. All other units are assessed through assignments where you complete real work tasks to meet deadlines as you would for a business but within a supportive college environment.
