Course summary
The Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity has been developed to meet the changing needs of the sector and prepare you for the challenges you will face in university or employment. Designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, Cambridge Technical focuses on the knowledge, understanding, and skills that today’s universities and employers demand. You will practically apply your knowledge and skills in preparation for further study or the workplace. If you study this qualification you will cover a wide range of center-assessed units with practical and wider project-based assessment opportunities, as well as examined units on the body systems and the long and short-term impacts of sport and physical activity; how the sport is organized and the purpose of sports development; health and safety requirements in sport and physical activity; the purpose of, and how to conduct, research in sport and physical activity; and how sport businesses are organized and what success looks like to them. This course is completed over two years with the Diploma being equivalent to two A Levels and the Extended Certificate equivalent to one A Level. A successful student needs to be motivated to produce and improve internally assessed coursework. They need to have a passion for sports performance and leadership. Studying Sports and Physical Activity may lead to a wide variety of jobs and careers in education, and the vastly expanding sport and leisure industry, such as Sports Development, Coaching, Activity Leadership, Personal Training, and Teaching, as well as ideally positioning students for onward study of Higher Education courses including Sports Science, Sports Coaching, and Physical Education.
