Course summary

> You will study a range of engaging and stimulating texts from the literary canon. > Your skills of analysis and interpretation will be developed to ensure you become a critical thinkers. > You will be supported by highly skilled teachers with a wealth of academic knowledge and experience. Do you enjoy reading and analysing literary texts to gain a deeper understanding of the human condition? Do you like exploring contextual elements that have helped construct important works of literature? Do you appreciate the importance of engaging with other critical interpretations to deepen your understanding of a text? Do you love deliberating with others to develop more complex interpretations of set texts? If so, English Literature is the course for you. You will learn to develop ambitious reading and analytical skills; read widely explore social and historical contexts, reflecting on how meaning is shaped by these contexts. You will study and explore a range of linked texts, such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Great Gatsby, considering how they reflect American literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. You will consider drama by Shakespeare’s contemporaries, as well as important works by the bard himself. You will explore critical interpretations of your primary texts, which will develop your understanding, and will help cultivate your academic style. You will cultivate a confident and analytical voice that you can apply to the NEA tasks within the course, as well as your exam submissions.
