Assessment

The A - level course is covered over two years and is split into 30% practical and 70% theory. The three theory aspects covered are: Physiological factors affecting performance • Applied Anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics • Worth 30% of overall grade • Exam: 2 hours exam Psychological factors affecting performance • Skill acquisition, sports psychology • Worth 20% of overall grade • Exam: 1 hour exam Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport • Sport and society, contemporary issues in physical activity and sport • Worth 20% of overall grade • Exam: 1 hour exam Performance in physical education • Performance or coaching of one sport, evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement. • Worth 30% of overall grade • Assessed practically. The practical activity chosen can be a performance or coaching. The different aspects of the course are taught using a variety of teaching and learning styles that suit all learners including some practicals.
