Course summary
Duffy and Larkin: Students will learn to compare the poetry in Carol Ann Duffy’s Mean Time with Philip Larkin’s The Whitsun Weddings. They will also learn to consider alternative interpretations and contextual details. Blake: Students will learn about selected poetry by William Blake. They will also learn to consider alternative interpretations and contextual details. A Streetcar Named Desire and The Duchess of Malfi: Students will learn to compare Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire with Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi. They will also learn to consider alternative interpretations and contextual details. Hamlet: Students will learn about William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. They will also learn to consider alternative interpretations and contextual details. Unseen Poetry: Students will develop skills in understanding and analyzing unseen poetry. Unseen Prose: Students will develop skills in understanding and analyzing unseen prose. They will also learn to consider alternative interpretations and contextual details. A Room With A View and Prose Study: Students will learn about Forster’s A Room With A View and will learn to compare it with a prose text of their choice. They will also learn to consider alternative interpretations and contextual details.
