Exam 1 - Technical Principles (30% of A Level) Content summary: In this unit, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of; the physical and mechanical properties of materials; and a range of modern design and manufacturing practices. Assessment: This will be assessed through an examination that is 2.5 hours. Exam 2 - Designing Principles (20% of A Level) Content summary: In this unit, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of design history, and contemporary design issues including the development and implementation of new and modern technologies. Assessment: This will be assessed through an examination that is 1.5 hours. Non-examined assessment (50% of A Level, assessed through a design project) Content summary: Students will produce a substantial iterative design project, which consists of a portfolio and a prototype. The scope of this project is open and students are required to work independently and solve real-world problems, through good design. Assessment: The investigation report is internally assessed and externally moderated. The work will be carried out under controlled conditions.
