Course summary

Throughout the course you'll improve on your existing fluency with the English language and learn to identify the way it changes depending on audience, purpose and context. You'll examine a variety of texts and develop your own writing skills across a range of genres. Creativity will be highlighted, along with the need to write for a specific target and purpose. You'll learn about the development of the English language, including how children learn to speak and the evolution of English over time. You'll explore the role of English in the media, and the ways it's used to convey specific messages in different contexts. An A Level English Language can be the first step towards college or degree-level study of English Language, English Literature, and many other subjects. The study of English Language is key to many jobs and industries, such as: Journalist, Writer, Editor, Teacher, Linguistics and publishing. It will also benefit a wide variety of jobs that require effective communication. As English is the predominant language used in international trade, comprehensive English language skills are essential to many business roles. In the workplace, you'll find your A Level English Language will demonstrate to employers that you have the ability to commit to learning, and have acquired good communication, reasoning and analytical skills - essential in practically every walk of life.
