Course summary

During the course eleven topic areas are studied including approaches in psychology, biopsychology, social influence, memory and forgetting, attachment, psychopathology, gender development, schizophrenia, forensic, issues and debates and research methods. Students must be able to demonstrate literacy, science and mathematics skills. Lessons will involve teacher presentations of core theories and research combined with written tasks and small group activities, such as poster presentation and peer teaching. Discussions and debates are also a regular feature. Students who are interested in how the human mind works and why people behave the way they do, and who also like the idea of learning a wide range of new and fascinating topic areas, should enjoy studying psychology. It is also suitable for those who enjoy designing their own research and carrying out practical investigations. Psychology is relevant to any profession which involves working directly with people. Specific psychology careers include, amongst others, Clinical Psychologist, Educational Psychologist and Forensic Psychologist, but is also useful for a number of related areas including: Police, Social Work, Nursing, Teaching, Public Relations, Customer Services, Business Management, Physiotherapy and Medicine.
