Course summary

A-level Mathematics provides a thorough grounding in the mathematical tools and techniques often needed in the workplace. It provides a foundation for further studies in a variety of subjects including construction, science and engineering subjects. The logic and reasoning skills developed by studying A Level Mathematics makes sure the qualification is widely respected even in non-mathematical areas. There are two pure units which make up two-thirds of the qualification and teach the core techniques in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus that form the fundamental building blocks of the subject. Mathematical applications make up the remaining third of the qualification. This is made up from the following: Mechanics – forces, energy, motion Statistics – probability, data handling, testing hypotheses.
