Component 1 (75 marks; 40% of A level; 3 hours mixed closed/open book exam) • Shakespeare • Pre-1900 Poetry • Exam will include two unseen poems Component 2 (75 marks; 40% of A level; 2 ½ hour closed book exam) • Close reading in the chosen topic area (World War 1 literature and its aftermath) • Comparative and contextual study from the chosen topic area Component 3 (50 marks; 20% of A level; non-exam assessment – independent critical study) • Critical and comparative essay of two texts. 2500 words plus a bibliography.
