The Food Science & Nutrition course offers students a wealth of knowledge about the relationship between the human body and food, as well as high level practical skills for cooking and preparing food. There is a strong emphasis on practical work, making this an ideal choice for students who prefer to learn by doing. You will need to have an interest in the Food industry. Over the two years you will study: - Nutritional needs (including the chemical structure and functions of nutrients, assessing diets of specific target groups and maintenance of nutritional balance) - Developing practical food production skills (including the preparation of menus, and preparing and cooking advanced dishes to restaurant standard) - Food safety (including the effect of micro-organisms, understanding storage hazards and controls, and allergies and intolerances) - Current issues in consumer good choice (an individual research project)
- At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 including a Merit in Level 2 Hospitality & Catering WJEC - For those who have not taken Level 2 Hospitality & Catering WJEC: At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4
