Component 1 - Physical geography In this unit students will study water and carbon cycles, coastal systems, landscapes and hazards. Written exam: 2 hours and 30 minutes - 40% of A Level Component 2 - Human Geography In this unit students will study global systems, global governance, changing places and contemporary urban environments. Written exam: 2 hours and 30 minutes - 40% of A Level Component 3 - Geography fieldwork investigation In this unit students complete an individual investigation which must include data collected in the field. The individual investigation must be based on a question or issue defined and developed by the student relating to any part of the specification content. Written exam: 3,000 - 4,000 words - 20% of A Level. Therefore fieldwork is an essential part of the Geography A level. Students are required to undertake four days of fieldwork, which will include a residential trip.
